Do you want more time to spend on the things that are important to you?
Are you a business owner? Congratulations! Owning a business can be an exciting experience, and it can also be challenging. With freedom and time being some of the main challenges. However, with careful time management and efficient use of your time, you’ll be able to make the most out of the opportunities that come with being an entrepreneur.
As a business owner, you are in charge of your own success and have great potential to grow your business as much or as little as you wish. You may have more hours worked each week than what is typical in other jobs; however this allows you to create a schedule that works best for both yourself and your customers. To make sure your goals are met every day, setting realistic expectations for yourself is important; this will ensure that you stay on track with projects while maintaining balance in other areas like family life. Speaking to some of my clients recently I found that many of them were working extremely long hours, 60 hours a week or more. There are a finite number of hours in a day, and once they are gone, they are lost. What we can do is be clear about how we are spending our time to make the best use of it, and by doing that we can become more productive. Larger businesses understand the issueof being present at one's place of work for more hours than is required, it’s known as presenteeism and is generally seen as a barrier to productivity, and a drain on mental health and wellbeing.
New client acquisition can be one of the most time-consuming aspects of your business. From generating the initial lead, nurturing them to the point that a proposal is offered, follow ups and review, it can take 8-10 hours of time before a client is ready to buy from you. By helping your network identify and prepare the ground with prospective clients you can significantly reduce that time.
A potential client referred to you by a trusted partner can make your investment in time as little as one and a half hours. That time will be spent productively understanding the new client’s requirements in detail. The initial know, like, and trust phase of developing a relationship will have mostly been covered by the introduction from a referral partner. With that partner properly trained on how to introduce you there should be no doubt about their willingness to work with you.
By building the right people around you to support your new client acquisition you can put back at LEAST 8 hours of your time a week. What will you do with it? You can of course work more. There is also the option to spend more time with family, or on hobbies.
Many business owners say that they would use extra time to work on the business. Would a valuable way to spend some of the hours you have saved be to look at the business and where you want to be in 5 years’ time?
We often start our business to be free of the shackles of the corporate world. The early days of any business can see us working long hours to establish ourselves and bring the rewards we are looking for business.
